What is it?
SatTalk III is an aviation installation kit for Iridium 9505 telephones for use with low impedance headsets used by the military worldwide and by certain helicopters.
The kit includes an aviation antenna, dual channel SatTalk III audio controller, and all required cables and connectors. The dual channel audio controller allows two crewmembers to plug their headsets into the system so that one or both can use the Iridium telephone, while still monitoring radio and intercom audio traffic. A unique privacy function permits one or both headsets to be isolated from the aircraft to provide complete privacy for the telephone call. An internal intercom connects the two users so that they can hear each other while both are on the phone. SatTalk III is compatible with both Push-to-Talk and VOX intercom systems. Am adjustable sidetone feature allows each user to hear themselves during a call, a feature especially important in a high noise aircraft environment. Separate volume controls on the audio controller adjust telephone audio levels and the intercom level. Incoming calls ring in the crewmember?s headset. The SatTalk III audio controller can be installed as a plug-and-play portable device or hardwired into the aircraft for permanent installation. The antenna is a low drag, round, GPS type patch antenna.
Why do you need it?
Crewmembers of military aircraft can now talk over their headsets to any telephone in the world using the combination of SatTalk III and a Motorola 9505 Iridium phone. Even civilian aircraft crewmembers using low impedance headsets can use SatTalk III in their aircraft to originate and receive telephone calls. The dual channel feature allows two crewmembers to share one 9505 either individually or simultaneously. The privacy feature allows complete isolation of a crewmember from the aircraft?s audio system for uninterrupted telephone conversation. SatTalk III also permits radio and intercom traffic to mix with telephone audio. The high noise environment intrinsic to aircraft is completely overcome by using headsets coupled through the SatTalk III audio controller to the 9505 Iridium phone.
